Numidians
« on: May 16, 2021, 12:17:06 AM »
The release of the new Osprey book on Numidians has me thinking about my Numidian army again. So far I have a few cavalry units and two elephants painted:

More pics, if interested:

The bulk of the painting required will be the infantry, Crusader and Renegade figures.

Nice work so far; which rules are you planning to use them with?

I’ve just started working on a Numidian force.
All Victrix plastics, superb.
I’m planing on a few command models, but need them in armour and mounted, I was considering the Victrix Roman general set with Numidian head swops?

I think your horses are stunning, brilliant painting.

Thanks Tim and Nic. Tim I think the head swap would work fine, there is an illustration in the Osprey book of Jugurtha in Roman armour and helmet. Some of the A&A Numidian command figures are armoured as well.

Chaps, I'm also working on a Victrix Numidian force. I will base on sabots so I can use for "big battle " rules such as Impetus but also "Infamy", I think Numidinas may be in the next release.  Good tip on using Victrix Romans with Numidian head swaps. One problem solved for me!

Regards.

I’m trying to make my force all plastic, just because it’ll be a first for me, a kind of challenge if you like.

I’m going to use the Numidian heads with helmets, on top of the Republican Roman bodies in Mail armour. These will be my imitation legionaries.

I may use the Victrix Spanish cav for characters thinking about it?
I’ll see what spare sprue stuff I can pick up.

I really like plastics, they’re a bit of work to assemble but the bonus is you can customise and kit bash figures very easily. I have plenty of unpainted metal Numidian infantry but will get at least one set of the Victrix Numidian infantry and transfers, their Spanish cavalry are superb.

The Victrix Carthaginians may also be useful for Numidian conversions, given how there were Numidian towns within the sphere of Carthaginian influence and how the Numidians later exerted some control to the east of Carthage after its fall.

Yes, I’ve mixed in a bit of Carthaginian gear as well.
I’ve managed to get hold of a couple of Spanish cavalry sprues (again fantastic detail)
So I’ll make some characters from these.
Didn’t Juba have a Spanish bodyguard?

Absolutely loving these Numidian figures.
The faces are stunning.
I’m still on infantry at the moment, but the simple four figure sprue is so versatile.

Lovely stuff Simon!
I’ll start putting up pictures of my progress when I start painting.
I’m still converting and gluing at the moment.
