A Very Hot Dispute: the Battle of Monkton Farleigh
« on: May 16, 2021, 09:29:18 PM »
Murdock and I got together for the first time in almost a year to play another installment in our ongoing ECW campaign.

Don't worry,  we're both vaccinated and the garage door was open for ventilation. :)

Beautiful figures and layout. What ruleset do you use?

Thanks.

Really beautiful looking game  :-*

The battle matt is superb! any hints as to if it was home grown or perhaps bought from a retailer?

We used Pike and Shotte with the amendments from To Kill A King.

I'll have to ask Murdock about the table cloth. It is a fake fur blanket; I know he bought it off amazon but I cannot remember the brand.

Wonderful set up and great figures.   :-* :-*

By coincidence the village of Monkton Farleigh is ony 3 miles from where I live.  I am aware of the siege of the castle but not a battle so I presume it is ficticious.  Are you playing out the 1643 Lansdowne - Roundway Down campaign by any chance?

Yes we are, as a matter of fact. :) We are using scenarios from this book (link):

I think the exact location of the battle is somewhat conjectural but the battle is not fictional. There are a few 'what if' scenarios in the book; in fact the next one in line is, but I am not sure if we will be playing it as it is based on the assumption that the Royalist win Monkton Farleigh, as they did historically.
