had a proper look through the range after reading your post.

It's really extensive - it must surely have been reasonably successful to have that degree of development.

A lot of great stuff in it too, as you say.
And having a main character / commander called Fartok is about my level of humour, I must admit.

the LAF's funny in that way - there are quite a few games / ranges that you'd think didn't exist / had sunk without trace, given the lack of any coverage on these boards.

btw: what a difference a paint-job can make indeed:
the Mantic sci-fi ranges suffer similarly from rather uninspired official decorating imo - but today I came across a joe-public pic of some Asterians (their space-elves) and the painting made them look fabulous - brought out their true quality you could say.

Well, Gates was designed by Andy Chambers Rick Priestly, and he's still a name to conjure with - and it shares a lot of elements with Bolt Action, which is pretty popular AFAIK, so must be some crossover sales there.  Konflikt '47 seems more dead/quite to me than Gates, but I might be wrong.  Regardless, it does have a slew of nifty figs - I was using them for Rogue Stars back when this was still that game's child board.  :)

Mantic's crappy catalog images are notorious with fans, must really hurt their sales.  Some really nice sculpts concealed by bad photography there.  I've done a few Asterian-adjacent figs on the old blog as well:

Man, I was really boosting for Rogue Stars for a while there, wasn't I?

Some nifty Nameless figs at Mantic too.

I thought it was by Rick Priestley.

Wow mate, some great work on those blog posts. I especially love the work on the Mantic stuff and your Expedition to the Barrier Peak references.

You are, of course, 100% correct.  No idea what I was doing when I typed that.  Sudden Starship Troopers flashback, maybe?  :\

Priestley's also Big Juju as game design creds go, of course.

great painting and kit-bashing in those links.

Mantic seem to have a bit of grudge against gamers in terms of a lack of assembly instructions, given the Deadzone products I've just picked up ... There are a few perfunctory line-art diagrams about online if you dig ... but, really ... talk about self-defeating.
