Which, I think, is what my daughter just mumbled, after my wife's friend and her two daughters from Saigon vacated her bedroom last night, having occupied it for the past ten days.  The relief of Mafeking will not have been met with more rejoicing. lol

Lol...My wife and I have similar sentiments after my sister leaves from visiting.

In any event, we begin our Tour of Duty next Friday, 17 Jan.  As I mentioned, I still have some paperwork to do, but my plan is to post the initial scenario information in a week or so.

Don't get me wrong. Lovely people and the kids are so smart, their English is incredible. Ten days is quite sufficient though.

The dog was sad though, more people to play with, take her for walks and sneak food from. I can see my wife's friend now has a cross to bear when she gets home in the form of repeated demands for a puppy.

Next time they visit, they can bring their new puppy!  8)

Okay.  I think we're all set for this Friday, when our Nam '68 Tour of Duty kicks off.

Missions are decided by a number of factors.  Force size (1, 2, or 3 squads), mission, location, enemy forces, # of search points, etc, all can be randomly decided.  We decided on a 1-squad mission to start, to work our way into the rules.  That means the US will take one of their rifle squads (2 fire teams), and a support team (either an M60 team or the Platoon HQ team).  As their first mission will be in a Low (Lima) Threat Level area (and with only a 1-squad mission), they will have no fire support available.  Here is their platoon to start with:

The platoon was generated straight out of the book, with 2 exceptions.  First, I made the Platoon Sergeant a Veteran, even though the Plt HQ is classed as Recruit (As you can see they all just got in country..."Short" is how many months they have left on their tour).  Second, I made the M60 teams with 3 men each - Army platoons often assigned their M67 RR crews to hump extra ammo for the M60s.  Other than that, right out of the book.

Mission-wise, they're gonna do a Local Security patrol, not far outside the wire.  They'll do it in a River/Wetlands area, and they will have 3 Search Points they can check out.

As to who they might encounter, there will be some civilians.  As for any VC, they (and you) will have to wait for the AAR to find out...

Here is the scenario briefing sheet:

And, here is a bit better look at the mission area:

SP is at 1100 hrs. Friday.  Contact report to follow.  Out.

Nice roster and mission brief mate, I also like the explanation of why you have done things.

It looks like your campaign is off to a great start, Jim! I like the idea of starting small to learn the rules. I should probably follow suit when I get around to doing a similar thing...!  lol

Based on your roster names, it sounds like you have quite the rocking platoon...!  ;D. I expect a lot out of Sgt. DeYoung and his fire team when they are out in the, er..."Styx"...!  lol lol

Who are your platoon HQ, there's something vaguely familiar going on here. ;) Although 1st squad fire team B will probably go down like a led balloon.

Sounds a very interesting series of games you have planned and I hope I remember to get back here to read your entertaining AAR's, a game a month for a year is quite a commitment, well done.
