Large scale Audi Quattro wreck - A Vanvlak Garbage-Rescue Project

Some poor kid broke his remote control toy car, and someone left it on a low wall out in the sun for any taker to collect it. After seeing it on the road to the garage for the third time in a fortnight I assumed no-one wanted it, and picked it up.

Here is the Audi, sans wire for the remote. At least it looks like a Quattro, I am no car expert:


It's obviously seen some use:


Apart from it's being a three-wheeler, the bigger problem is the scale: by my calculations it's about 1:22, which is a little too large for my usual models, which peak at 1:35. I do have one single loco wagon in G gauge, bought by mistake, but have no plans for anything on those lines.

So what to do with it?
The options are:
1) chuck it
2) convert it into something else - but it's too Audi-shaped and all too obviously a large scale car
3) start collecting G-gauge railway stuff and add it to the scenery (all I'd need is a wheel) - please don't tempt me. I can only do this when I have a huge place for this sort of stuff.
4) convert it to a decaying oversize fibreglass replica of a Quattro used as an advert by a car dealer, rotting away in a post-apocalyptic scenario (and that could fit setting (3) too, incidentally).

So (4) it is.

Stripped down, with most adhesives removed:


Extra bits removed, and undercoated:


The remains of the adhesives will serve as degradation damage

The tyres for the three remaining wheels will be replaced as the wheel rims are not realistic (I was tempted to leave them tyre-free).

I thought of that, but it's easier to start from scratch than try to convert this to something unrecognizable.
Hopefully, it will be usable.

Heh, I had exactly that in mind - and the colour will be a nod to that, but badly faded.

Progress - getting ready to reassemble and weather (although the individual components are already part-weathered) - the next stage will see the common weathering affecting all bits.





Still some touching up (i.e. camouflage with weathering) to do. I did not try to replicate the Quattro exactly, as the model has the headlights and tail lights a little different from the original - and also has no side mirrors! As I am using this as a scrapped fibreglass oversize advert it doesn't really matter
