What Rules Do You Use?
« on: September 11, 2009, 01:08:32 AM »
For your zombie, post apocalyptic, future sci-fi gaming?

I use the Skank rules.
http://www.skankgame.com/Downloads.html

They're fast playing and easy, both necessary for my 8 year old to play. They cover almost everything, vehicles, tactics, can handle a lot of miniatures, etc.

I know there are other great rules out there... Combat Zone, Mutants & Death Ray Guns, Kill Zone, etc...

What do you use and why do you like them?
Never underestimate the power of human stupidity.

Skirmish (zombies, near future): Combat Zone
Post apocalyptic with vehicles: High Octane (Gorkamorka/Necromunda rules blend)
Battlecars: we just started with some games of slightly modified Krash, the system works quite well!

I'm still keen on trying Dark Future some time, we also tried Babylon's Burning for post-apoc skirmish but it's a bit too detailed and bogs down easily (we once spent 15 minutes just working out initiative  o_o). We also played X-treme Zombie Hunter once but I'm not too fond of games where you only have one model (once someone dies it's over for them).

I looked at the skank game and it seemed to me to lean a bit too heavily on roleplay, but never tried them. I do love the inspirational site though! But then again, I don't have to play 8 year old opponents.
Let me hear the battle cry
Calling on the wind
Let me see the banners fly
Before the storm begins

I use Combat Zone, Wastelands and Ambush Z. Wastelands has been a real draw lately.

Thanks,

Dead Walk again are nice and simple rules, similar to Combat zone using Pips and such for movement. If you look on the Yahoo group the original rules were more simple than the current version whihc has been very well developed. They use spawn points for zombies whihc can be got form their e-magazine in the files section

will post link to group as Yahoo sems to be down atm

ATZ (All Things Zombie) - What I like about them is that you can always play a short solo game when you need a zombie fix and no one is around.  (The rules handle the zombies, but also add a level of unpredictability to your fellow zombie-fighters when you play solo).

I just tried a test game of All Things Zombie . I dont think I've ever sworn so much at a set of rules before . :? Dont get me wrong , I like much of what I tried but I spent most of my time flicking through the pages trying to fit all the bits together .
I still have not worked out how to resolve Zombies/Survivors in building charts.

Are there any mods for Terminators or Predators etc ? I suppose the Yahoo group would be the best place to look when I have time.

The mechanisms should work ok in FNG (I hope) as I want to use these for Vietnam.

FNG is a lot of fun for Vietnam gaming and covers many of the important aspects of the setting: the chaotic nature of close contact with the enemy, radio communications, artillery & air-support, helicopter operations, tunnels and of course, the weather. Oh, and the vehicles are all there too.

The helicopter insertion and close air support rules have always appealed to me as a good addition to sci-fi actions.

Now that a revised edition of the WWII rule set, NUTS!, has been released it seems quite likely that FNG will get a sprucing-up as well, but when the delivery date will be is still unclear. A cool Air Cavalry mission book will be released at the same time as the revised FNG, I'm quite excited about that.
Television is rather a frightening business. But I get all the relaxation I want from my collection of model soldiers. P. Cushing

Hey thanks , sounds like modified rules may be out about the same time I start putting paint on my figures  ::) lol
I am off work with Flu at the moment so my frustration with ATZ may only be temporary . ;) Although I have stolen some ideas from it to add to Future Wars as they have stats for Zombies , Predators and Terminators . I just need to work out something for Daleks , Apes , Gibbons and Greys. :?

I begin to read the rules of Skankgames and I like its easiness, but I do not find zombie's profile and/or scenery for zombie/post apocalyptic games

Where I can find help for beginners GM?

Thank you, sorry for my English

I use my own. Been dedicating my 'sick' days to putting a draft up on the computer from a zillion old, and out of order pages lately.

Post-apoc - CR3

Near/Far Future [Firefly etc] - 5150

Never really got into Zombies, but if I did I'd use ATZ  :)

I just need to work out something for Daleks , Apes , Gibbons and Greys. :?

I know I shouldn't ask, but  ???  lol
