I've just ordered my copy! I was blown away by the quality of the research in Tobias Capwell's first volume, Arms and Armour of the English Knight 1400-1450.

From their site:

ARMOUR OF THE ENGLISH KNIGHT 1450-1500

PRE-ORDER

In the eagerly awaited second book in Tobias Capwell's Armour of the English Knight series, we explore how armour developed in England during the violent second half of the fifteenth century- the time of the Wars of the Roses. This was an age that brought the ultimate flowering of the distinctive English style of armour-making, a tradition which created many strange and wonderful works of high fashion and technology, all of which have been lost, and have remained undocumented, until now. The book will be produced in summer 2021 and dispatched shortly after.  Priority will be given to pre-ordered copies which also benefit from a £10 discount on the published price.  This offer is open for a limited period only.

I have no affiliation to the publishing company but given rise in interest in the Wars of the Roses over the last year or so it would be remiss of me not to point out that this book is now on pre-order

I don't think you will be disappointed, the last book was lavishly illustrated and came with a few surprises too.

The first and second book sit nicely within my area if interest. I wonder if Tobias will do a third book  ??? He certainly has some expertise in post 15th Century English armours.

I put in an enquiry as I knew that Tobias Capwell had another book planned to carry on from where he left off. You simply don't get studies of armours of this quality nowadays so if you're into Late 15th Century English armies, it's an opportunity that cannot be missed. I pre-ordered straight away. It's expensive but I would hazard to say, well worth it.

I know! I'm so used to ordering books and have them pop through my letterbox in a day or so!  lol

That would be wonderful but I'm doubtful. His expertise is in English Armours as he lives and works in the UK. I would happily have him leave the country for a few years to dig into French and Burgundian armours. Might even be worth suggesting to him if I had any contact details!

I don’t think that’s a fair assessment, particularly given he works for the Wallace Collection, which contains armour from across Europe, and also writes on behalf of other museums. A couple of his books are also specifically European rather then English in focus. I work with a whole bunch of curators who live in the UK but specialise in everything from European to Oriental arms and armour.

I have a copy of Masterpieces of European Arms and Armour in the Wallace Collection and can see what you're getting at.

As I said, I would be very happy to see him dive as deep as he has in the first book on English Armours for European Armours between 1400-1450. It would be a bit of a dream come true. Thus far Tobias Capwell has not, at least as far as I have read, not taken the same expansive look at armours outside of England and Wales etc.

Yeh tbh that was a bit of a tired and unnecessarily grumpy response. No offence intended.

I ordered mine at Olympia Auctions. I sent them an email recently and got this reply:

"Thank you for your email.

The book is currently with the printers, and is due to be sent out at the beginning of October. You will be sent a tracking number by the distributors when this happens.

I can confirm that I have amended your delivery address to the one below."

If I don't hear anything by October I'm going to contact them again.

A lot of smaller publishers seem to be experiencing delays these days -- the publishing industry isn't immune to the supply pinches that seem to be affecting every part of the economy. I've heard of smaller imprints being muscled out at the presses by larger publishers and having difficulty getting access to specified papers, etc. It may be the case with Olympia as well.

You may well be right.

I contacted them again yesterday and will report back as soon as I hear anything.

This from Olympia Auctions via email today:

"Thank you for your email.

The book arrived at the distributors today and the process of sending out orders has commenced."

So, it looks like the books are being processed and sent out now.
