SSWG does 28mm Eastern Front 1945
« on: June 13, 2021, 01:20:26 PM »
Here are some pics of our first big game since we were able to re-open.  Russians versus Germans on the eastern front in the dying days of the third reich.

Lots of house to house fighting as two Soviet forces try to link up and take a vital river crossing.

Figures are 28mm and the game was played at the SSWG HQ in Southend using the Battlegroup rules.

The Germans held on but their numbers were dwindling fast.

Bombed out cities is on my list to do.
Will use your photos as inspiration.

That's quite the ruined city.

I like how the Germans were kind enough to put up a Russian sign on one of their buildings (5th pic down), to welcome the Soviets.... :D

Ah, yes, well.  :D

Actually the scenario was based on events from Hungary in Jan ‘45 but I knew there were Russian signs and a statue of a Russian soldier.  So I went for vague.  I think the terrain is for Stalingrad.   No snow either in January.  Shocking inaccuracies.  :o  ;)

Well in that case, perhaps the snow melted due to the warm reception the Germans gave the Soviets.  And the Soviets started redecorating the place immediately upon occupation.  I'm sure there's an answer for everything... :D ;)

excellent looking game Trev  :) you've managed to build that Sarissa wrecked factory in about four different ways. What are you using for that roadway / tarmac ?

Thanks EC.  Not much was my work though mostly my club mates at SSWG.

I believe the roads were plastic covered with pva and fine sand.  Sand paper might be an alternative.
