Liking the new faction - they look good, and very different from your first force.

The bright clean shields really stand-out from the overall drab colour schemes. Can’t decide if this is ‘realistic’ but it certainly looks sharp!

Also good to see the new terrain pieces working well as photography stages too.

Thank you. I was also a little undecided on the brighter shields and flags, but I think I like them in the end.

Another little terrain piece finished, a root of the word tree. In Sludge, the world tree was mined for arcane power until it shattered, and the remains of its roots still carry some power. In game they can heal and revive troops if you can take control of them.

As mentioned, the Free People faction in Sludge is fairly medieval in theme. I had several models lying around that fit really well into the theme and have been painting away.

Among other things I had a collection of XIII-XV century Kings and nobles from different manufacturers. I painted these up to function as the Knights of the Realm, a special unit that replaces the force commander. I'll be able to field these either foot or mounted. As far as fluff, their armour is ancient compared to the full plate worn by other knights in the force, but I imagine that it carries powerful enchantments that predate the breaking of the world. No modern arcanist can match their power.

Then both players I have demoed for expressed a desire for a battle standard bearer, so I grabbed this conversion from my desk and painted it up:

And finally, on the topic of grabbing things, I found this Westfalia miniature in the lead mountain and decided to use it as a chaplain:

What do you think?

Thanks mate. Really happy to have a home for a lot of these medievals so there is plenty more coming.

You are progressing at speed, again!

Really liking the latest additions, both the figures and painting and the story behind them. Great stuff

Love the Barons' War(?) minis. Did you ever try that system?

I’ve just realised that your chaplain miniature (amongst others ;)) arrived in the mail earlier this week, your colour choice for her are spot on :)

Alas not. I bought the rule book with the intention of maybe playing 14/15th century instead, but didn't quite get round to it. I have been considering getting the viking age pdf and trying the system with our Saga forces but I have been short on time for gaming lately.

Another little update. Took a little longer to get the painting mojo to finish these after doing the previous 10 bases of infantry.

The Free People get longbowmen in Sludge Nations, and they seem very powerful. Similar to crossbows, but with more range. The offset is that they are dreadful in melee. Shouldn't be a problem with the longest range in the game next to cannons.

Minis are perry WotR and Frostgrave soldiers II. The big tufts are from Serious Play UK, which I stumbled across last month and placed a small order with. Can really recommend.
