love the left hand pistol/hand weapon combo

was that from a kit? I've been looking for flintlocks in hand for various conversions with little luck

It's a metal model as well, Order Militant Hauptman from Gripping Beast.

Just a small one today, threw together some terrain for play at the club. We had a nice game mat, but no suitable terrain.

What do you think?

Thanks lads! Need to do a bit more, and then get on with the new faction units from Blaster vol 4.

@BZ, thank you! This thread does get updated in big infrequent bursts, so easy to miss. Hard to pick the right forum as well, maybe it would be better in fantasy.

Sludge Nations dropped a few weeks ago and with it a whole bunch of cool stuff for Sludge. I did not expect each faction to get quite as many new options and I did not expect to like them as much as I did, so my hobby plans for this spring have shifted entirely to Sludge.

My Malakal force fit quite nicely as Royalists, as I already have two full units of Hussars and Royal Hussars are just a straight upgrade. Having made that decision I set about building a unit of Royal Marines with rifles. Conveniently I had four sprues of Wargames Atlantic british riflemen lying around (Royal Marines in Sludge can take rifles as an upgrade), giving me just enough to build a full unit of 15. I am a little short on african heads, except zulu, so I decided that these elite infantry wear the same bronze headband you see on some of my knights. It is a mark of royal favour, and this is an elite unit.

Lots more to come, as the Duchy of Staaren join the Free People and get access to a whole load of knightly goodness.

Another cracking unit.

Good to hear a bit more about Sludge Nations - wasn’t entirely sure about it from the brief outline I’d read

Thank you both. I would certainly recommend Sludge Nations, it adds a lot of fun and diversity to the game. I may even end up building a third army as the Cult faction is very tempting.

Brilliant work. Really enjoying this journey into Sludge.

Thanks again, glad to hear people enjoy this.

Continuing with the Sludge Nation factions we get to the other army showcased in this thread, which I had named the Duchy of Staaren (a little nod to my home town) and envisioned as a little bit of a peasant uprising/indepence faction, vaguely inspired by Sweden in the Kalmar Union. I had originally decided this force would be a bit of a heavy infantry force with some artillery support. Sludge Nations then delivered unto us the faction of Free People, the most medieval (or Brettonnian) of the factions. They have a unit of knight commanders, heavy infantry, long bows, men at arms and a holy reliquiary. The fluff of small realms struggling to remain independent fits perfectly with what I had already decided on for Staaren.

It was also a perfect opportunity to dive into my collection of Claymore Castings and V&V models which I have been gathering without any real plan for a game. Five years ago I would have added them to my House Stark force. I had painted some in the colours of my home region just to get some paint on them, intending to use them as imaginations in the 15th century. Now they will instead get a home in sludge, and I decided to incorporate the heraldry I had been using into the Staaren force. I never did banners for them as I was undecided on what I wanted.

So in short, here are some Claymore and V&V models for the Staaren duchy, with first look at the new shield and banner design for the force.

Heavy infantry (Line infantry with pole arms and the option for heavy armour). Mostly Claymore italian spearmen, these are freshly painted since Sludge Nations dropped.

Men-at-arms (Medium skirmishers that can form shield walls). Claymore, V&V and a Westfalia miniature. Slight repaint from the abandonded medieval project.
