Viet Cong 20mm
« on: June 27, 2021, 09:09:59 PM »
Hi all!

My friends and I are very interested in the upcoming Nam 68 game. We already started building our forces and before the game is release we will be playing Ambush Valley.
I decided to go with VC as I wanted something new to paint. I took me around two weeks to get them done and I consider this to be pretty fast.

All miniatures are from Elhiem - I bought almost entire VC range they had  :D

I started with Civilians which I used as color test for the actual VC. I used 3 different colors for skin and 3 different colors for straw hats - which I actual changed for the VC guys.

And now the VC starting with sks rifles and M1 Carbines

The main portion of my force - AK-47s

Now some support weapons - RPG-2s (I think?) and RPDs

Commanders and Radio Operator

Snipers - one with Mosin Nagant and one with SVD. Description on the website reads that the one withSVD is Female and the one Mosin Nagant is male but actually looks like female too.

Sappers - K50M; SKS Rifle wire cutters and Claymore

M20 75mm Recoilless Rifle

.30 cal - the loader has Thomson which is actually pretty cool :)

DShK - One of the crew is from civilian set as I ran out of figures...

Maxim - same as with the one above I ran out of minis so only one crew for that. I added some ammo boxes with random decals that I could find in Russian so its more happening on the base other than just one lonely guy. I also had to "disassemble" the wheels otherwise this gunner wouldn't fit to the elevated gun...

And that is all, thanks for scrolling to the bottom - I realize that this is a lot of pictures :)

Lovely, takes me back nearly 40 years to when we played with Platoon 20 figures at our club, Can't remember what rules we used though

Thanks! Speaking of Platoon 20 - not sure if you knew but the guy running it is retiring and closing down the store. I never had anything from their range but its always sad to see wargaming businesses closing down...

Sure I can.
The Author is Piers Brand who was working on Ambush Valleyu and Battlegroup book (that I know of probably something else too).
The game will be for two players (possibly more). One side plays Us the other is VC/Referee. The game will be platoon size as far as I understand.
Rules will cover US Army, Airborne and USMC.
VC roster will be random based on cards drown before the game. While US will have an option to create their own roster. And there will be campaign element covering tour of duty of the US platoon.

Below I'm re-posting picture from the "Soldiers of .." facebook group.

Nice looking figures. Any news on when “Nam ‘68” may be scheduled for release? I’m also planning to get back into 20mm ‘Nam using these rules and Ambush Valley, but my copy of the latter are currently stuck in Paris.

These look great! I use 20's for my modern stuff. I like how you add bits of stuff to the crew-served weapon bases.  :-*

Well done!  Nice VC and civvies.  I have loads of 20mm Vietnam stuff, but am transitioning to 28mm, as that seems to be my current scale of choice.  My eyes had something to do with that...

In any event, again, your figs are quite well done!

Thank you!

28mm is also nice, much better possibilities to customize your minis.

28mm is my scale of choice for anything pre 20th century. I love the 28s sold by Empress and Gringo for Vietnam but just find the idea of large-scale Vietnam games in that scale a challenge. I actually have Vietnam in 1/200 with lots of armour, brown water navy and helos but when “Nam ‘68” comes out will probably go 20mm. I would look at 15mm but am not that impressed with the figures currently available.
