Back to Painting Napoleonic's Again - And a new battalion
« on: July 04, 2021, 11:53:44 PM »
It's been a while since I last painted any Napoleonics. The last games I played in 2019 were using General d'Armee which are still my preferred rules. So these guys are are based for Gd'A. My main army is Prussian but I looked at my French as saw that they're lacking and I need to paint at least another 4 battalions of infantry and one a couple of regiments of cavalry. In fact more of everything would be better!

Here's what's new so far:

Below is a link to my blog. It's the place where I write uninteresting things about little toy soldiers. I do this because I refuse to grow up and behave like an adult.

Fantastic...absolutely fantastic!!! They look great. I finally finished a British Battalion last week and 60 horses. Now I need to paint 60 cavalry men. Thanks for sharing.

Great stuff.

Particularly grateful for the desert mat tip - tea and coffee - because I'm planning on buying 5m of 12 oz canvas for my desert games (2.18m wide) next week and I was planning on painting it, or brush on dying it, with heavily watered down emulsion paint. Your tea based dye looks like a much better solution (no pun intended). Thanks.

Thanks for the positive support folks. For me painting Napoleonics is a bit of a love/hate thing. Sometimes I hate having to paint big units over and over again, but I love the result and the feeling of accomplishment.

Thanks, already searched back through your terrain label and found it.

I'm definitely going to go down this road though, on further research into cloth, I've decided to go for a canvas sheet 16' x 9'. The only thing I need to find out is if I want 9.5 ounce or 12 ounce canvas (medium or heavy) - frankly I have no idea what's what in the weight department so I'm going to pay a visit to my local cloth shop to have a poke about. Instinct says 12 ounce.

I'll trim the cloth to 16' x 6.5' foot before dying. I'm going to use the offcut (dyed later) to glue on the top of bread and butter hill shapes so that they 'blend in'.

Just need the cloth, tea and coffee, and a free sunny day.

I painted a new ligne battalion this week. It's just a basic, general battalion. Nothing specific. This is the first time since I started Napoleonics (late 70's) that I've used a mounted chef de battalion and I like the look. I have enough figures for three more battalions and I think that will be enough for the time being. But I need more cav too, so there is still plenty of painting ahead of me.

More good looking lads.  Doing these in a week is a great output rate as well.

Very nice!
