Another episode in the strangeley familiar land of Margana! This week Fagland the Yerg has had a transformation!
I have a bad case of prescient nostalgia. The future's not what it used to be.

These photos are great! I hadn't considered getting so close to the action before, but I like it. Well done.

Also, is that a citadel grass mat? I've got one as well. Love it. not sure why they don't continue selling those. Anyway, I notice there's all sorts of twigs and pebbles and flock etc all about. I've seen this on a few other blogs online. It's a much more natural effect, but how's it done? just randomly scatter small bits about? do you shake the mat out and reapply each game or is do you just roll up the mat and hope all this flora stays in somehow? I'm definitely curious about this technique.

thank you, i am glad you like the effect. Yes I use a lot of natural materials, lichen, bark, small stones.  Whenever I go for a countryside walk or when I go to the beach, I take a couple of zip lock bags and gave a good scavenge! I combine the natural stuff with shop bought bits and pieces. After each battle I sweep the table and bag up the sweepings, these I think add the most realism and I tend to use them to mark out boundaries of woods or marshland or rough tererain. The boards are MDF covered with a grassmat that I think came form Antics, they are painted kinda deserty on the other side. I will take some pics of the next board I set up and post them for you.

Great stuff as always mate. A joy to read, although I do find the names confusing to follow.

Thanks for sharing the tips on making a great board.

I love the "backdrops" you have.  That is something I will need to look into for my own photos for sure!

They look to me like some of Jon Hodgson's evocative landscapes.

They are John Hodgson. They are original prints and are quite pricey , my wife bought them for me for Christamas. Putting some terrain pieces in front of them helps to create the illusion of distance

Just "discovered" your campaign and have spent a very pleasant early morning reading the set up and AARs. I must say I thoroughly enjoyed them. And our figures of course!  EDIT that should be "Your figures" of course!

But what is a b/w? I assume it a distance measure?

Keep up the excellent work and looking forward to he next battle report.

Thank you, that is fine praise indeed! B/W are base widths. I shall answer your question, in Fantasy Battles, movement and weapon ranges are measured in the width of the base of one company, which is square. 5cm in my case with 28mm figures.

The campaign system is very simple and very enjoyable, the game itself has a whimsical feel, but has some real subtlety, some excellent skirimishing rules and takes a bit of mastering.

And now a question of my own, when you say "our figures" to which are you referring?

Thanks, all is clear now.

Apologies - there is a missing "y" should read "your figures"!
