Thanks for sharing, was just searching on uniform information yesterday!

Not sure if you could help but would it be more or less historical to paint regular

british infantry miniatures in either red or blue to represent uniformed provincials?

In my opinion, it depends on the scale and detail of the figures. You could probably get away with it in 15mm or smaller.

Only general descriptions are known for most provincial uniforms, but they tend to be plainer and simpler than the regulars' uniforms. I don't know of any provincials who wore laced coats or hats. Most are shown with round cuffs and short coats without skirt turnbacks, some are shown in single-breasted coats with no lapels. Provincials were usually issued with hatchets instead of bayonets, and rarely wore leg gaiters.

In 28mm or larger scales, I'd recommend using dedicated sculpts for provincials.
You'll shoot your eye out, kid!

Many thanks Hu Rhu :)

Nice paint jobs by the way Koppi  :)

Early war uniforms for Virginia Provincials were plain red, old fashioned cut, after which they quickly went over to blue coats and breeches, red waistcoats and facings on the coat; white hat tape.
Much like these, but these are painted as New Jersey Provincials, for Virginians change the hat tape to white and the gaiters to brown.

I agree, at Monongahela a good many of the Virginia Provincials would have been in the old pre-war red uniforms (if any) with a smattering of the new blue faced red, by the following year they were far better uniformed.

Thanks for the comments, really informative and looks like these Galloping Major miniatures are great!

That said trying to be historical but budget wise might go with some alternatives (I have already) to save some money.

Will at least remove the bayonets and maybe remove some bits and pieces from the regulars and a more improvised paintjob.

Any chance of a Galloping Major distributor in the EU?
