Italian Wars Gendarmes
« on: July 17, 2021, 06:56:37 AM »
Golf was rained off this afternoon so I managed to finish basing some Wargames Foundry Italian Wars Gendarmes that I've had for ages
https://valleyboyinnz.wordpress.com/

I'm pleased to see that they match with those from Eureka that I painted a while ago

A couple of questions and advice if that's ok
Why when I post pictures are they so small? Any ideas?
More importantly I know I need more Gendarmes and perhaps more significantly I WANT more lol

I'll probably get some more from both Eureka and Wargames Foundry and there's no way I cannot avoid buying some from Steel Fist!
As far as Perry Miniatures are concerned does anybody have any advice as to how suitable or useful their plastic Mounted Men at Arms or Agincourt Knights might be?
Any other manufacturers recommended?
Many thanks

Thank you for your comments
I've just realised that I've posted the thread in the wrong place and suspect its better located in the Medieval section
I wonder if the good Captain would relocate it please

The best thing for gollif is to be rained off.
As far as the photographs, they are in proportion to the person posting.

Beautiful painting, as always.  I hope you had a glass of pinot near by.
Time for a game soon?

VB I think you are using the thumbnail for forums link from the “share’ menu rather than the hotlink for forums.  If you use that latter:

Then those lovely figures are revealed in all their glory.

Excellent work! The Gendarmes look amazing!

As far as Perry Miniatures are concerned does anybody have any advice as to how suitable or useful their plastic Mounted Men at Arms or Agincourt Knights might be?

I've used a couple of Perry plastic War of the Roses men-at-arms to fill out a block of Gendarmes for my Borgias. A few of the heads and bodies can be used to blend in with other Gendarmes, and with some green-stuff to add skirts or sleeves to the bodies they can fit in up to the 1510s. Though generally the look is more late-15th rather than early-16th century so they may be better as unit-fillers rather than entire blocks of Italian Wars-era Gendarmes on their own as a heads up!

Keep up the great work!

They look fantastic! The two ranges go together very well.

I'd say the Perry WOTR cavalry won't fit in too well - they do look very much from an earlier era. Depends on how historically accurate you want things of course!
But also, I believe the Foundry horses are noticeably MUCH smaller than the Perry plastics, and it looks like the Artizan ones are the same size. So you'd end up with the men in fancy 16th century armour being on little horses, and the ones in outdated English armour dwarfing them!!!

I happily have used the Perry plastic mounted men at arms,if you look at the triumph of Maximilian plenty of the riders are in much older harness, not everyone could afford the most up to date kit! The steel fist gendarmes ( which are delightful!)are the same size as the Perry plastic ,which is larger than the Foundry gendarmes, what that did mean is that I could use all the extra heads and plumes that you get with the steel fist gendarmes on the Perry figures. Best Iain

Thanks for the advice guys
Iain I have a few spare bits from the Eureka Gendarmes as well so I might get something organised but I'm not really much of a kit basher
