For a while now I've been working on my own rules for Feudal Japan (https://mmcvhistory.home.blog/2021/06/08/rules-for-the-sengoku-jidai-revamped/). I'm getting close to being happy with them (just small tweaks at this stage to the core rules, though plenty of scenarios, formations and suchlike to do still) and have run a few test games. No armies yet (first figures just arrived the other day) so couple of recent test games were with mdf:

Then after doing some further streamlining, introducing some new concepts and wanting to use some actual figures, I decided to take the rules back a couple of millennia and try them out in Warring States China as that was the next closest army I had figures done for:

Looking forward to putting together some actual units for the period, as well as making some proper bannermen and messengers rather than those garish counters I've been using!

I would be interested in eventually trying those rules for gaming Warring States Chinese battles!

Certainly, if/when I ever do get a Chinese adaption done I'll be sure to let you know, though I do find researching Chinese warfare in English sources to bit a bit more hit and miss than what's available on the Japanese. Some great potential there though. I'm working on some Medieval Europe/Crusades rules too in a similar vein, so I suspect the Chinese rules will sit somewhere between the two.

The stones/blank bases would work great for a semi hidden deployment/movement until you contact an enemy, then reveal...

Yeah, that would be an interesting idea to get around the "god's eye view" of the enemy position. Doing something for dawn attacks/dense fog was something I had at the back of my mind, some sort of hidden deployment like that could work well. Provided it doesn't become too cumbersome or require a lot of bookkeeping to keep track of whats' what and who's where. One to let the cogs turn on for a while and see if anything presents itself. Thanks for the idea! :)
