BSC2021: We have a winner: AKULA!
« on: July 26, 2021, 08:10:37 PM »
Winner of this years Build Something Contest, themed ”Difficult Terrain” has been decided and the voters picked

AKULA

…and his Game of Thrones inspired bases of mutilated carcasses, doubly aptly named

A feast for Crows

Thank you all who participated; to me so many of you deserved a place at the top!

Well done to both finalists - they were both great pieces of work - but a special round of applause for the winner, Akula.  8)

Thank you mate for running the contest, am really chuffed to have won against some class acts...I think any of the four semi-finalists could have walked away with it.

It was really inspiring to see so many different interpretations of the theme from everyone that took part.

It was VERY dramatic daaahling. Well done Matt.
Deothar’s entry was also excellent and could easily have taken the crown.

Congratulations AKULA! A fantastic entry and one that I am sure we will see elements of in many photos of battles to come!

And well done Deothar too! I love the painstaking attention to detail that went into your build and it is great you have played a game on it already!

Thanks also of course to Hammers. Great job all!

Well done Akula!

But frankly, all the entries were great, and I got a lot of good ideas out of the competition, so thanks all.

I already replied in the finale thread, but I'd still like to take a moment to thank Hammers for the time and effort he puts into this competition every year; it's much appreciated!

And hats off to not only AKULA, who so decidedly beat me in the finals, but also to every other participant! There were so many wonderful creations there that got almost lost in the fray, but every one of them was a worthy contender 8)

The sheer diversity of subjects and, styles was awesome to behold, and a lot of entries did not get their chance to properly shine in their intended environment. By that I mean; a lot of entries were made with a very specific tabletop, set of terrain and often even rules-set in mind, and for the bulk of the entries we never got to see them as such. Which is a shame, because in their intended context, they would undoubtedly have looked even better.

And probably would have made the voting process even harder as a result ;)

So here's to hoping everyone will show off their entries some more, now that the contest is over.

I had a blast building my entry. I've experimented with a lot of new techniques and learned a lot in the process. And of course, if circumstances do not prevent it, I will certainly be entering next year again! :)

Congratulations, Matt, for managing to finish top of the pile!
Daeothar is right, any of those semi-finalists could have won with those gorgeous entries.
I think the sheer scope of the madness that is in the mind of AKULA is what tipped it in the end!
 :)

The whole competition was of such an incredibly high standard that picking someone to vote for in each round was not easy.
Such a variety of subjects, you all gave me ideas and inspiration to ponder over when it comes to what I should be building next, so.... 'Thank You!' to all who entered!
 :)
