28mm Dacians. Victrix and Warlord Games.
« on: August 07, 2021, 01:22:19 PM »
I'm enjoying the Victrix Dacian  set so much that I've now also ordered the Warlord Games Dacian Nobles box too.  The Victrix one has great versatility, enabling archers, bare chested and tunic wearing light infantry and heavy infantry construction.   It  has a huge array of heads  and plenty of spears, single and 2 handed falx and swords.    There are quite a few capes too.   Without much effort the models can be used as Gauls or  Germanic peoples.   I'm very impressed with this set.    The  Warlord games one looks interesting in that it uses the same lower 1/2 body as their plastic Gauls and Britons boxes but  then has dacian metal upper 1/2 and heads.   There is a dirth of images online of these guys but what I've seen look lie they'll complement my growing Victrix Dacians warband nicely.   It's always nice to have extra bits to mix and match b/w different manufacturers and even cultural groups.   Anyhow  here's some of the Victrix  guys I've done and I'll post some Warlord games pics when I get hold of them.

Got the Warlord Games set in the mail.   Very quick service from the UK and at a good price.  They also have an interesting deal on international postage where to offset the cost they give away a free set!   The  Dacian Nobles has  42 minis of which 2 are  unique metal fully formed.  Another 10 metal upper halves - fit neatly into the plastic lower 1/2 of the included plastic sprues.  These 5 x 10 soldier sprues are the same as those that come with the Celts box ( and the Britons).   There are 40 Dacian metal heads and 20 oval Dacian Shields along with  lots of shield transfers.    This gives the set a great deal of  diversity   and the added bonus of  whichever way you assemble your troops you'll have heaps of leftover heads and upper bodies  for the spares box.   Of  course if  you only wanted say 20 Dacians you could build them and then 32 Gauls !   All in all quite cool.

Standard Bearer  WIP.

I think the Victrix Dacians are one of my favourite box sets for quality and versatility.  The  Warlord games Dacian Nobles , however, at least match them for these qualities and given the inclusion of transfers and great postage deal just beat them in the value for $ category.
If  contemplating which to get --  I'd suggest    BOTH     :)

Hi, nice work. I have thought about Dacians before but weren't too pleased with other Warlord product.  How do the Victrix and Warlord scale up against each other size-wise? Also, are there many "weird" poses in the Warlord set? A mate of mine bought some and there seemed to be a mass of band-legged guys with arms in strange positions.

Thanks

Scale is almost identical b/w Victrix and Warlord Dacians.  I've used some components interchangeably b/w the 2.  The Warlord guys are perhaps a tad slimmer.   Arm positions are fine.  They are certainly more dynamic poses than the Victrix - which is why I like both, to add more variety to the warband.

my 1st Warlord Games Dacian completed.   Nice to paint.  Upper 1/2 being metal and lower plastic makes a bit unstable but I stuck to to a metal washer and that to MDF base to give it a lower centre of  gravity.
