While those rules do look great, I think the author was looking for games where the focus is on the individual, rather than the unit

In that case Pig Wars with a few amendments is the best one that I have played.

Captain Blood and James et al seem to play the Wars of the Roses, which some emphasis on the individual models with a Fist Full of Lead.

It's not really a type of game that i've played for Late Medieval so I'm somewhat in the dark.
