Foundry Akkadians and Sumerians

So I’m collecting some (very) ancient armies, that of ancient Sumer and Akkad. I have the CP model figures and want to use the Foundry figures as the Akkadians.

They make a nice chariot....er....rather, donkey cart. However, the cart has no crew! £20 for a crewless chariot vs £15 for a crewed CP Models version. That’s ok, I’d like some variety in the sculpts to indicate perceived differences between the nations.

I’ve emailed Foundry, but to no avail. They don’t answer. Are there ancient charioteers I’m not familiar with somewhere else on the Foundry website? Any comments or suggestions would be appreciated.

Lovely models, but far too expensive these days.
I did have an army of these, a few years ago!

An incomplete range I’m afraid.
Top up with Newline models, in my opinion.

Have you looked at the Warlord Games ( ex cutting-Edge Miniatures ) Bronze Age range? They are very nice models and although they don't sell separate crew maybe some "command figures" would suffice.

Eureka used to a nice Sumerian range

The Sumerians are listed on the Eureka UK website. At £2 per figure they are even pricier than Foundry but they do produce a 4-ass chariot including crew for £19.40. Worth checking out.

So I picked up some of the Eureka Sumerians. Unfortunately, they are Munchkins compared to the CP models they need to play with.

Eureka have some lovely figures but no size consistency even amongst their stuff.  ie  a Saladin and Macedonian figure both by Eureka.

  That is pretty bad.
Sadly this seems to be a common problem with most long-lasting companies. Size creepy becomes really apparent in those lines.

On the chariots, you may be able to add platforms to the figures without making them look too unnatural. Different sized horses/donkeys/mules can always be explained as different breeds.

Wow that's pretty crazy coming from the same manufacturer  I usually convince myself big size differences are okay between units, but there's only so much you can do within one. Especially when it's not just a height thing, but proportions as well.

To be fair to Eureka though, both of these figures were sculpted by different people years apart. Also, how many Saladins and Macedonian Phalangites are you going to mix into the same unit? It's a bit like saying that the very old Foundry Elizabethan sculpts don't mix with their more recently sculpted Masai. 28mm is the most fluid of scales, most wargamers have come to accept this.

Going back to the original topic, I know that Eureka's Sumerian range was commissioned to fit alongside Foundry's Sumerian range if that helps.

Perhaps it does. From the bottom of the foot to eye level, the Eureka figures are 25mm and quite slight of build. Are you saying the Foundry figures are also this small? Well, that saves me some money.
