Co-operative Conan with 'Sellswords & Spellslingers'
« on: August 11, 2021, 08:30:27 PM »
In a year and half filled with dispiriting news and developments, sometimes the world whispers in your ear that not all is destined for despair.

A friend who had had a catastrophic health crisis over two years ago that had left him incapacitated made unexpected contact with me recently. I hadn't heard from him in two years, and assumed I wouldn't again. But the world is a funny place, and his hard-fought recovery not only brought him back from the brink, but brought him across the country to the very city I currently live in.

When I invited him over to the house a couple of Saturday's back for our first-ever game, I wanted to get something on the table that I felt we could pick up quickly and was confident would be fun. I settled on my thoroughly playtested adaptation of the Conan yarn, "Beyond the Black River" using my modified version of the Sellswords & Spellslingers rules. This was the first convention game I had ever run, and I've now GM-ed it at several more conventions. We had a grand time!

You can read at my blog about this unexpected reuniting with a friend and our fun time playing a miniatures game together, a hobby near and dear to both of us.

The game looks fantastic, but It's even cooler to read that you got to game with Mar. I did read your tribute post last year as well as his farewell post. I don't know y'all, but this is a great turn of events and the best thing I've come across all month.

Cheers!

Twas a great game, Joe!
Oh, and thanks for the kind words.
But really it raises peoples expectations of me.
Its hard to live up to the hype you describe.
Even I want to meet this Mar you speak of. :)
I was literally just posting my own blog post and was going to mention our game last sunday.
And again I just want to say that Sparky the Dog (or whatever his name was) is the goodest good boy ever, may he rest in peace.
Let all drink to man's bestest friend who was mauled by that savage cat. (Dont want to start a dog vs cat flame war, but dogs are man;s best friend. just sayin') :P
Cheers,
Mar
