Winston Ab Rees’s Big, Long ECW Project
« on: August 15, 2021, 09:02:53 PM »
Hi all, hopping over from the Medieval forum after a long WotR project: https://leadadventureforum.com/index.php?topic=113783.msg1684182#msg1684182

I’m now kicking off an ECW project of similar scale. 28mm and approx 400-500 figures a side.

Starting off with early war Parliament for Edgehill. I’ve settled on a Perry minis and Warlord plastic mix for the bulk of the force.

Here we are with unit 1 - Warlord Cavalry done as Parliamentarians.

Already see some familiar names here and look forward to once again making new friends, getting advice and feedback in a new period. Cheers all.

A brilliant start!  Those Rebel Roundheads look excellent 👍.  Very much looking forward to seeing your project progress.  I think the Edgehill campaign is a great idea for the basis of your project.  Both sides relatively evenly matched, lots of colourful units and characters on both sides, and a huge amount of amateurish ‘enthusiasm’ on both sides.

Really nice work mate   8)

EDIT: Forgot to ask, are you going to include this project as part of the Winston Ab Rees YouTube venture?

Nicely done  8)
I'm really not a fan of the Warlord ECW plastics, but I think the horse are better than the foot, and you've made these look great. A vision in buff leather!

Thank you I was pleased with how they turned out. I can see where you’re coming from, but cost and wanting to get numbers fast won the day. Your recommendations were useful tho as it was great to discover Bicorne who I’d not seen much of before

The Bicorne sculpts are wonderful but the Warlord plastics are good for what they are intended: bulking out an army.

The Warlord P&S cavalry set is very handy.  I like the horses a great deal (once you’ve dealt with the pesky mould lines).  The rider sprue is chock full of handy stuff: cornet, trumpet, carbine, cavalry hammer/pick etc.

Hello all. Recently completed first foot regiment - Essex Parliamentarians. A wedge of pike and two sleeves of shot. Warlord plastics again. With some fiddling, I got 42 figures out of the box. Next I’ll move on to some Perry Miniatures characters and cannon, plus some Old Glory.

Catching up with some photos. We’re way past the 100 figure mark now. Just the 700 to go. Here’s Essex, plus some more musket and pike, and a redoubt made out of a toaster box. All completed over Xmas/Jan. Cracking them out at a decent rate now, and pondering a sconce (see separate thread)

Great productivity and end result.  May I enquire the colours you used for flesh as I rather like the style?
