French Flags for Max Usage?

My French figures do double duty for the wars of the French Revolution and early Napoleonics (which I'm just getting into so be gentle).

Blue coats, bicornes, it's generally pretty good.  But here I need to tap into the collective wisdom of the board and ask what kind of flag would work with these mounted fellas.  I'll have some banner-bois among the foot troops, too.  And in each case, it would be nice to have a flag that works to represent Le Belle France even if it isn't entirely historical.  Would I be out of line to just use a fleur-de-lis or the tricolor?  Or something else?

Nice painting there! Much like the uniforms, flags changes frequently during the Revolution and Empire eras. You can get a sense of how much on the old Warflag site. https://www.warflag.com/napflags/flaghtml/franindx.htm . My advice would be to either make multiple sets of flags that will slip over the poles without gluing them on (so you can change them out depending on the era you are playing) or pick the version you like best and run with it.
