By the by there’s a famous song by Bezerra da Silva which explains the difference between the malandro (a wide boy/ lurk merchant/ con man/ grifter and archetypal carioca character) and Mané. As Bezerra said the malandro is a bloke that knows stuff and rubs along on his wits whereas Mané has a lot to learn. It’s a classic.
