1-72 Scale Model of Hougoumont Chateau card model...
« on: September 03, 2021, 03:30:29 PM »
I'm thinking of having a big, 'Old Skool' Airfix Battle of Waterloo game round about Crimbo. I've got a mint Airfix La Laye Saint and a scabby one to cobble together as Pappalotte. That just leaves His Grace's right flank bastion to glean. Has anyone any experience of this cardboard affair please? I reckon it's going to be a tad crap and a waste of money, but would be delighted if an enlightened Brethren proves me wrong!

Must admit, it's tempting, but not really in the 'Old Skool' Airfix spirit. Maybe a cardboard one is, but not one looking like the thing, me and our kid built in the early 70s from Corn Flakes boxes!

Years ago Airfix magazine published plans to make Hougomont from two La Haye Sainte kits. I got as far as making the farmhouse and a couple of stable blocks but never completed the project. That would be very Old Skool if you could find the article.

I have a PDF of Waterloo buildings, PM an email address and I'll post them on to you.

Finally decided to go 'all' Airfix in the Waterloo re-fight. The side of Hougoumont facing the battlefield's centre is all you really need in 'Old Skool', so that's wot got cobbled together. Airfix La Haye Sainte got tickled up a smidge to cover up the open doorways and wotnot. Just having one wall of Hougoumont now leave's room for Papalotte. Meaning, another farm is needed to throw that one together!

I like how you represented a bit of Hougomont, it works. I do have a fully made card version in the loft. Will have to get it down and photograph it. It is huge in 1/72nd.

After the battle get a man in and paint La Haye Saint walls white again!  lol
If it isn't enjoyable, it isn't gaming!

Just gleaned another farm from Fleabay. Going to chop it up a bit to make Papalotte/walled farm for Quatra Bras look alike. just found a shoe-box containing enough Airfix French Infantry to make three Battalions of those green clad Nassau chappies.
