[Kickstarter] Footsore Miniatures Welsh - Dark Ages/Medieval
« on: September 05, 2021, 11:34:36 AM »
Hi,
I haven't seen a topic on this brilliant new Kickstarter by Footsore miniatures, with fantastic Welsh sculpted by Matt Bickley, for both "Dark Ages" (Early Medieval) and High Medieval :

A lot of strechtgoals have been unlocked already, but hopefully there will be more spearmen and ponies...

I'm quite excited about the "Dark Ages" Welsh as it will finally allow me to put together some 11th CE Welsh (possibly some Irish too) for Hereford 1055. Mainly as Teulu and Combriogi.

Not sure if I love or hate the vaulting slinger. It's certainly a dynamic pose. I'd probably be inclined to convert him slightly, so he's pushing his way through some undergrowth or leaning against a tree trunk rather than being so airborne. I'm pleased at the overwhelming 'light' aspect of the troops, with plenty of spearmen - I'm also assuming the empty hands allow for the other infantry to have spears too instead of so many swords and axes.

He might also make a useful ‘sitting down wounded’ shock marker.

Very tempted by this, but I have a Welsh force already and I haven’t even touched the Baron’s War Kickstarter yet so I shall show some hitherto unknown restraint!

They're lovely minis  - Matt Bickley is rapidly becoming my favourite sculptor.

Not sure if I love or hate the vaulting slinger. It's certainly a dynamic pose.

Ditto

From a practical point of view you certainly wouldn't want more than one in a point of SAGA levy (12 figs) which means additional expense and wastage. Not a biggy in the scale of things but a PITA all the same. Probably he'd have been better as a stretch goal.

Totally agree with you on the jumping slinger...on one side it's nice to get a very dynamic pose, but it really would have been a better stretch goal or add-on to an existing set...

Generally speaking a lot of great miniatures, but I would have liked second sets for unarmoured spears, javelin, etc, before going into the fancy characters...

Yeah I'm in the same boat with regards to the Barons War stuff. In fact I didn't go for Barons War 3 despite loving some of the miniatures.
I was quite interested in this 'Welsh' Kickstarter when they first started showing the previews but I would have liked a few more packs that were generic dark ages by Matt Bickley to complement his Huscarls.

That's a good shout.

I really mustn’t look any more.
