That’s a very impressive figure and you have done a great job with the added branches and painting.

There’s something about the lack of an obvious face on that figure and the smaller versions that adds to the ‘alien-ness’ and makes them even more unnerving than a typical ent or dryad figure. That aspect appeals to me - I think that a ‘forces of nature’ army should feel alien. Civilized folk anthropomorphize the forces of nature to make them easier to comprehend (and dryads sometimes take humanoid shapes to communicate or mess with people), but nature itself operates on a different logic. Having no face gets that across!

Something different today!  I needed a stone bridge to replace the wooden one I had previously made for my terrain boards. The problem was I couldn't find anything suitable to span the river, (its 6 inches wide) until I saw this one made by Debris of War.

Its a  large piece but perfect for the job and fits perfectly. The only thing I had to do was add another course of stones to the centre column where it meets the river otherwise the model would appear to float in mid air. I made this from a piece of blue foam which I gave a thinned wash of filler which was sanded down when dry.

A simple paint job of grey primer followed by various washes, drybrushes and growies and its done.

I agree...a troll peeking it's head up just above the water on the bridge would be aces.

BUT, this bridge is also fantastic with out it. Great job here!

In Hordes of the things the Troll could be a 'lurker' only revealed (whether
or not there) when someone tries to cross the bridge. ;)

I don’t think Malamute plays HOTT as IIRC his exquisite Fantasy game reports have been FOFL or DR.

I know I’ve commented already Nick, but I came back for a second look. The bridge, as I previously said, is very well done. But I also like what you’ve done with foliage, especially that in the water: it gives the impression of languid water, which suits the width of the river.

Thanks Steve,

As the river boards were originally conceived as a canal for some long forgotten project they are straight with no curves. I decided to reuse them but needed to break up the uniformity and straight lines, I thought adding some growies etc would do the job.

This is kind of what I was aiming at:
