The first outing for my Fae army was a Dragon Rampant battle yesterday against Captain Blood's Orc horde led by a nasty wizard. Boo Hiss!
We maxed out with 48 points on each side. The Fae lined up opposite the Orc horde, quite the spectacle the Orcs made, nine units many of which numbered 12 figures. The Fae on the other hand were mostly six figure units. Their force looked very light in comparison, but would their Fae magic be enough to see the Orcs off?
As with Rampant games activation is unpredictable and the Fae made the best of it, racing across the table towards the Orcs who took their time moving forward. The Fae plan was simple, to charge straight into the Orc line using their superior movement speeds. Unfortunately the Fae lacked many missile troops with only two units of Pixie scouts who had any shooting ability.
The Fae crossed the middle of the board and came into range of both the Orc archers (who were many) and their wizard. Unfortunately for the Fae they lost initiative on several consecutive key rounds which meant the Orcs could rain down arrows upon them along with power bolts from their wizard. This caused the Fae attack to falter, their number were reduced and several of the units were battered and had to withdraw to recover. When they eventually charged forward their numbers were depleted and they were unable to break the Orc line.
Dryads charge the Mumakils
Tree Ents lumber towards the Warg riders.
The Dryads were unable to bring down the Mumakil, so they left it to the Ents who drove them from the field along with the Warg riders.
On the right flank the Dryads managed to charge Saurons Orcs and push them back.
However the Dryads depleted in numbers are charged by a rather nasty giant and driven off.
The Pixie scouts unable to evade the giant are quickly dispatched. Their bows no match for his raw strength.
From her vantage point the Fae commander witnesses the destruction of the woodland folk army, even her powerful magic cannot save the day from the Orc horde despite seeing off the Mumakil, Warg riders, and Haradrim the orcs just kept coming!
She orders a retreat into the forest to regroup!
Great fun and thanks to Captain Blood for bringing his Orcs. Looking forward to the next game. Time to start painting my centaur archers!
