Wrecked Panzer III Terrain Piece
« on: September 11, 2021, 08:45:36 PM »
A few months back I built a platoon (and a bit!) of Panzer IIIs using the excellent 1/56 scale kits from Rubicon. To add a bit more visual interest to my games of Iron Cross, I thought I would knock up (or should that be out?) a destroyed Panzer III. Here are a few in-progress shots.

Starting to add the burnt-out effects

Final version, just awaiting some flock and grass tufts

I've written a series of blog posts https://fortheloveofterrain.blogspot.com/2021/08/back-to-hobbybuilding-wreck.html explaining how I got from the unboxed kit to the finished article with details of the techniques I used and paint references. I'm still learning and experimenting, so please leave comments and constructive criticism. ;-)

Looks great, well done. Your blog section on making Crete terrain is also excellent, I'm currently taking notes, as that campaign has always held my interest. Thanks for taking the time to write it all up.

Nice piece....love all the details, and like the "brewed up" look.

nice work parttimegamer - and found lots of interesting stuff on your blog. I agree by the way with your comments about Rubicon kits growing in complexity and how perhaps this is not ideal for wargamers. That said a beautiful 1/56 kit like that does make for a better terrain piece - open hatches, damaged running gear and all the best - than a more robust resin miniature

Looks really great!

I like it.

Reminds me a lot of photos I've seen of those destroyed in the desert war.

Thanks for all the positive comments guys. I've since built a SdKfz.253 and am just starting on a pair of scout cars. I hope to have them done over the weekend.

Here's a pic of the assembled and undercoated models; all from Rubicon, but with some minor additions from my bits box.
