Quick Playtest of Cannon, Cross and Crescent in 1/2400
« on: September 22, 2021, 02:17:55 PM »
I recently finished some 1/2400 renaissance galley fleets for the Turks and  Christians. I plan to game them with David Manley's excellent Cannon, Cross and Crescent quickplay rules. Here is a brief AAR of a test game and breakdown of some of the mechanics.

I think 1:2400 is a great scale for pre "big gun" naval gaming (being about 40 boats into an ACW naval build). A close to matching figure to ground scale works perfectly for most normal tables.
Your peg idea is neat and the galleys look great.

Are the TD models cast fixed to the big base, or have you added those?

The TD ships come with their own base that has the oars sculpted onto the base (they do this with their ancients galleys as well). I glued the ship hulls into the TD bases and then glued them onto litko 1.5mm plywood bases (I added magnet bottoms to the litko bases).

The TD galleys are great but you have to glue the cross spar with sails onto the masts and this can be a bit fiddly of a process.
