The HIND quickly neutralised the Afghan armour.

Despite the arrival and the Soviet attack helicopter and it’s devastating firepower, the Afghans were inflicting heavy losses on the motor rifle platoon, almost completely destroying all of their armoured vehicles and taking a heavy toil on the motorised infantry sections.

The Afghan Warlord knew it was essential to destroy or drive off the HIND, but despite pouring AA machine-gun fire and also firing the last remaining Sam missile at the Soviet air asset, the Afghan fire was unfortunately inaccurate and the HIND was free to act with impunity.

The HIND was saved by deploying its flare systems.

Despite a last ditch effort by a fanatical Mujahideen cell, the HIND was the dominating force. The Afghan politician and the Soviet downed helicopter crew, used the opportunity to mount up in the BRDM and evacuated the battlefield under the superior air cover.

A real nail-biter that was.  Without that Hind, the Soviets had their work cut out for them, that's for sure!

I do enjoy this size of battle, they’re always very close calls and great fun to play

You should seriously consider a Raglan's terrain thread. Would love to see just your scenic stuff.

Soviet Paratroop Detachment. Come on Rambo and the mujaheddin!! This is Afghanistan, Alexander the Great tried to conquer this country... then Genghis Khan, then the British. Now Russia. But the Afghan people fight hard, they will never be defeated (Rambo 3).

Added the above detachment to the collection, so I can run scenarios based on the operations in the Panjshir Valley 1980–86.

Stay tuned.

Lovely stuff!
Em dezembro de '81
Botou os ingleses na roda
3 a 0 no Liverpool
Ficou marcado na história
E no Rio não tem outro igual
Só o Flamengo é campeão mundial
E agora seu povo
Pede o mundo de novo
