15mm in the Desert, 1942
« on: October 10, 2021, 02:45:11 PM »
After seeing Olicana's wonderful desert collection, I just had to go and buy some tanks for the desert! I've not done 15mm before, so here are my first efforts.

One question, I'm representing the Scots Greys with my Honeys and Grants. What should their regimental number be? I'm thinking around El Alamein and Alam al Halfa.

I didn't know any Fireflies made it to North Africa. Italy maybe?

Yes, sorry I should have made it clear. The Sherman is not really part of the project. I am working on Honeys, Grants and Panzer IIIs. Later, some Crusaders and a few Panzer IVs.

Those tanks and the 25lber look excellent m’lud. I love 15mm as it hits the right level of detail/pretty models and available manoeuvring space on the table during games for me. I’m working on Tunisia in 15mm with the hope to blend it into Italy slowly.

Do you have a meticulous and cunning plan for the forces (I’m guessing you may as you mentioned specific unis) or are you just dabbling happily?

It's not meticulous but it is cunning! It's not quite finalised yet, but I am thinking Scots Greys with Grants and Honeys; County of London Yeomanry with Crusaders and Panzer Regiment 8 with mainly Panzer IIIs and a few Panzer IVs. Then some 25 pdrs and 88mms in support.

I would like to get a couple of Hurricanes and Stukas as well.

Keep posting up photos as this project develops. It looks great.

I half wish that I had started gaming in 15mm for the same reason that one of previous posters has mentioned: enough detail, but more space to manoeuvre on the gaming table.  However, it's a bit late because I am several hundred figures and several dozen vehicles into 28mm now, so little chance of changing tack at this stage!

Interested in the same period and scale.
What rules do you think you will plump for ?

Not actually sure yet. Any suggestions? I have Flames of War because the rules come with the boxed sets I bought.
