Galaad Gallery (humble start) - 28mm for TTRPG

Hello,

I'm french (from Brittany) and just started painting with a pair of learn to paint kit from Reaper. I wanted to share my outputs on this forum which I crawl anonymously for years. Some members works here are amazing and it motivated me to start.


I've never played or painted minis before. (In early 00's i almost bought skull pass set but never did). I mostly want to do minis for TTRPG and maybe small skirmish wargame (mordheim or anything more narrative than competitive).

I have a bunch of heartbreaker goblin that I got from Ralpartha and I hope to paint good enough in a couple of month to paint them at a décent standard. I'm still unsure if i'm gonna do them Warhammer green or D&D yellow.

So behold my humble begining :
Anion the Wood Elf and Ingrid the Gnome from Reaper layer UP kit.






I tried to do eyes and faces but can't achieve nothing so i'll try again another day. Otherwise, I'm pretty happy with myself (especially with a newborn and limited free time and "craft" experience i think I did well enough).

From what I understand, these are your first pinting results. Very well done! I see you are shading them and that proves that you understood how to make them appear even more three-dimensional. Dare to try even more contrast between light and dark tones, if you like.

My advice for eyes:
-White area where the eyes are
-narrow black vertical line for the pupil
-black horizontal line for the upper lid (same for lower lid if desired)
-then trim around with basic skin tone until you're satisfied with the size of the eye

They look very good for first efforts indeed.

An excellent short cut for painting flesh is to use one of the GW Contrast paints, such as Guilliman Flesh. This has improved my poor efforts at faces, you can still add eyes and additional shading if you wish.

Your models look good so far. Painting eyes is challenging and I think Michi’s advice is a good approach. Paint the eyes first then the rest of the face. The most important thing is to keep practicing!

I stopped painting eyes on most figures. Now I just use a small mark of dark brown or black to give the impression of an eye. Much faster and less frustrating. The models still look good in games.
