Millsy's Fantasy Thread
« on: October 20, 2021, 07:23:46 AM »
G'day everyone!

Millsy here, long-time lurker finally getting my act together to share some of my work. Some of you may know me from the Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge over the years, most probably don't. I also have a side-hobby doing layout and design work for various games designers including BigRedBat (To the Strongest!, For King and Parliament), MOGW (Blood Eagle, Thud and Blunder, IHMN) and WSG (Triumph!). To those I do know, hello again! To everyone else, hello!  ;)

This is going to be a (hopefully!) long-running thread showcasing my fantasy painting efforts. I'm only going to post new stuff, but if you are interested in my back catalog feel free to go look at my army gallery on Blogger.

First up some Elves I have been working on for a SAGA-based fantasy project. I'm using A Fantastic Saga rather than AOM because I'm want my own Tolkien-esqe 3rd Age flavour to everything so I am making a lot of the stats up by tweaking the base material in there.

I know people will ask so... the cavalry are kitbashed from Oathmark plastic Elf Light Infantry, GB plastic Arab Heavy Cavalry and Fireforge Templars. There's also a Frostgrave female wizard and some WFB Elven shields in there. Lastly, the way stones are carved from XPS foam and tarted up.

Hope you enjoyed this lot. More to come soon including other stuff from this project and also a new Oathmark Human army I'm am starting up.

Cheers,
Millsy

Wow Millsy, they look fantastic!  :-*

I love the colours too, and the old GW shields work perfectly with them.

Cavalry and characters aside, this is basically the contents of two boxes isn't it? One regular Elf Infantry, and one Elf Light Infantry?

I'm already looking forward to seeing your Humans!  :D

A couple of lovely looking elven forces you have there, I particularly like the wilder look of the Wood Elves.

Thanks everyone! @Major_Gilbear, yes that's one box of each. I did mix bits between the two sets because there are no spear options in the Light Infantry box.

Yes, I realised that there'd been some swaps between the sets, as well as some extra parts, but even so I think the Oathmark boxes are really quite good value for the army you've got there. :) Just eyeballing, it looks to be close to 2000 points, depending on characters etc?

Are there any plans to add anything else to the elves or are they done for now? Given your Tolkein-esque preferences, I can really only think of some heavy cavalry, and maybe a bolt-thrower and/or a chariot...?

Great army.  Nice to see some of these more proper "classic" fantasy armies showing up.  It's a nice palette cleanser from the Age of Sigmar style stuff.

They look great indead, lovely clean and classic paint schemes. Certainly mixing parts is a strength of the whole North Star plastic range, and we're only getting more and more bits to play with :D

@Major_Gilbear, these are actually intended for a SAGA fantasy project, not Oathmark. That being the case I'll likely not be adding to them any time soon. I also have a recently "completed" large force of (mostly) Conqeror dwarves for same (I'll share them soon). Also a pile of Orcs/Goblins from various ranges. Finally, I'm going to be doing some humans for Rohan and Gondor for the "goodies" and Angmar, Harad and Númenor for the "baddies"

Ah, apologies; you did say they were for SAGA, but I somehow assumed they'd be used for Oathmark too! That's fair enough - it's a nice size force as it is. :)

If your elves are any benchmark, than I can't wait to see these! :D
