[WIP] Building of Ruins of Mordheim modular table
« on: October 21, 2021, 10:49:49 AM »
Construction of the 'Ruins of Mordheim' modular table, part 1.

If you follow the Warheim FS Facebook fan page, you already know that I started building a modular table with the Mordheim ruins.

As a base, I used 16 square modules with dimensions of 40x40 centimeters made of plexiglass, on which I glued bricks cut from styrodur, from which I placed roughly the surface of the table. The modules themselves should allow for almost any configuration of the battlefield.

Ultimately, I want the game table inside the walls to have many levels, bridges and footbridges, unlike Teufelsberg, allowing you to use the rules that allow you to climb, jump and dive charges.

The ruins of the buildings were made of buildings models from Lasercut Buildings, the same ones that I used to build Teufelsberg.

That’s looking mighty impressive.

Can I ask about the use of the white styrofoam blocks? Are these representing ruined buildings, and hence the square nature, or is it that these will be shaped further?

Also you seem to have edge strips - will these limit how the tiles can be placed together?

Thank you. Styrodur blocks will be mainly foundations and basements of buildings that will stand on them. There will be a river around the city ruins, at least in this alignment. But these will be modules, so you can change it and make yourself a river inside.

Workshop: Construction of the 'Ruins of Mordheim' modular table, part 2.

AlienLAB Miniatures and Rotten Factory decided to support the construction of a modular table with the Ruins of Mordheim.

If you follow the reviews published on the blog, you could already see Pile of Skulls from AlienLAB Miniatures, which I used to valorise the lanterns I bought on Allegro . But in the photo below, there are definitely more bits that you can use to valorize your building models.

On the other hand, gypsum elements from Rotten Factory will be perfect for the valorization of building models and will be used to cover the walls of modules.

is that painting on the lamps illumination or ... actual little lights?

looks very convincing!

oops, watched the little video on your blog now (and the wires should have been a bit of give away, it's true). That's brilliant - fantastic touch.

what a fabulous table this is going to be  :o

Thank you very much. :)

Workshop: Construction of the 'Ruins of Mordheim' modular table, part 3.

The first module I started working on is the one with the Prussian manor from Lasercut Buildings.

Stairs cut out of styrodur lead to the dilapidated manor house, and the whole is illuminated by a few LEDs and lanterns, which I connected to the LED candles I bought on Allegro.

I thought for a long time about how to sensibly power the LEDs and lanterns placed on the modules and finally decided to try this way. We will see how it works in practice.

In the streets of the City of the Damned, there will also be manholes for sewerage, which Gonzo from Black Grom Studio made to order.

And HERE you can see the lantern and LED test on YouTube.

Workshop: Construction of the 'Ruins of Mordheim' modular table, part 4.

The next step I took was to pour the plaster on the flat surface of the streets, and when the plaster was partially bound with a thick needle, I scratched the pavement.

In a similar way, I made the floor of the basement, additionally we wove the symbol of Tzeentch, the Lord of Change, into the pavement.

The last thing that I have managed to do up to this point is to stick plaster and cork bricks to the walls, as well as plaster cast elements from Rotten Factory, as well as fragments of GW building models that I have and whose elements I have duplicated for my own use.

This is looking very impressive - great work

On a separate note, I see you have the Hobby Zone Poland drawers and shelves - how do you find these? I’ve got a set and overall they are good, but I find the lower drawers are often blocked by things on my desk.

Thank you.

I keep things in the bottom drawers that I rarely use, but they also motivate me to keep my desk tidy. If I have order on my desk, I can easily pull it out. ;)

A cunning plan! I’ve just rearranged some of my units, to only be two rows high, which I have found a bit better for seeing and accessing stuff. This had taken me a while to do, but did remind me how handy it is that the units are all magnetic and fit together pretty much as you want.

I do like the little pots of stones, which I’ve just spotted.

Workshop: Construction of the 'Ruins of Mordheim' modular table, part 5.

Czas zabrać się za wnętrze i detale.

It's time to get down to the interior and details.

I built a fireplace with plaster bits from Rotten Factory and plaster tiles that I bought in the Battle-Models.com store.

Perfect for cold winter evenings.
