Timurid Dust Up
« on: November 19, 2021, 04:38:45 PM »
Sometime back I ripped all my old Mongol, Russian & eastern medieval figures off their WRG bases and rebased to the Husaria rules along with a whole load of painted castings that had sat around for years in boxes and never got based or used, I even painted some more  lol
The castings are old but they still look presentable and I've managed to put together a Timurid force plus Mamluk's, Jalayarids, Golden Horde and Russian, so for a bit of a change we rolled them out and did a Timurid v Golden Horde game.

The Golden Horde deployed a strong Russian contingent on their right - 9 units of cavalry covered by 2 units of Cumans, and a weaker centre and left comprising 3 units of noble cavalry covered by 5 units of skirmish cavalry. Troops ranged from Veteran to Experienced.
The Timurids deployed a left wing of 2 units of Veteran Black Sheep Turks, then a centre and right of 3 Experienced skirmish cavalry and 3 Raw units of foot skirmishers covering 6 units of Veteran and Elite heavy cavalry.

The battle seen from the Timurid lines went well.
The Black Sheep Turks held the Cumans in a duel of the horse archers and then 2 heavy cavalry units detached from the centre saw them off, causing a brief disorganisation of the packed Russian ranks.
On the centre and right the air was thick with arrows as every unit had a bow which saw the skirmish cavalry from both sides driven in, however once the Golden Horde had lost the cover of it's skirmishers it's inferior numbers (and class) told against it and once one unit had routed it didn't take long for it's centre and left to collapse.
The Russian cavalry did manage to get going but despite pushing off the Turks and supporting heavy cavalry they were too late to make a difference - time to go for independence  lol lol

Looks like you enjoyed the project, as well as the game Ian.
Not surprised you chose Husaria rules. lol
