It is about the Decembrists.
There was a radio play on 4extra a while ago. Absolute Monarchists versus Liberals against serfdom and for rule by a parliament and constitutional monarchy based on the English model. It could be argued that the victory of the absolutists led to the revolution of 1917.
Very interesting piece of little known Russian history that kicked off when Alexander 1 died and there was a cuffuffle about the inheritance - good Tsar, bad Tsar as the rebels saw it.
Everything kicked off in Senate square when the rebels wouldn't swear allegiance to Nicholas (bad Tsar) when his older brother Constantine (good Tsar) refused the crown. The revolt lasted a single day.
Looking forward to its release, though the way things are at the moment 'when' is probably up for grabs. My son is in a film with Jim Broadbent that was filmed almost two years ago now but, the release date keeps getting pushed further and further into the future.
