Battle of Bita Paka AAR
« on: November 06, 2021, 04:05:32 AM »
Recently we played a scenario created for the WW I Battle of Bita Paka. This action featured inexperienced Australians against Colonial German forces in the Pacific in 1914. The action was one of those hard to simulate on the tabletop as in real life the Aussies scored a coup de main and captured their objective the German radio station at Bita Paka virtually intact with little resistance (their fight along the trail to get to Bita Paka from the coast was a different matter but not covered in the game). To give everyone a fighting chance in our game we created PHART, a Pre-game Historical Australian Redeployment Turn (inspired by the CoC Patrol Phase) to allow the sides to move and deploy randomly yet still allowing for a recreation of what actually occurred!

George who hosted the game wouldn't let me post the result but here are a few pictures of the game and below are links to the TSOG Blog for the full run down!

Our battlefield, the Australians are entering the table at the top right corner of the tabletop and their objective is in the foreground, the German Radio Station building…

Close up of the Aussies entering the clearing of Bit Paka with German Colonial troops milling about surprised at their arrival!

The Radio station building was quickly in Australian hands, luckily for the Germans the Governor arrived with militia from Toma!

The Australian second wave of troops advanced into Bita Paka and took heavy fire from the surrounding huts from stout natives led by Germans !

Could the Germans retake the radio station? (see Blog for details!)
