Sons of Mars
« on: November 09, 2021, 04:41:45 PM »
Don't know why I didn't think to post here earlier! :?

A few of us in our group are going to start playing Sons of Mars, probably as a side game to our clubs main campaign (99% Gaslands).

I hadn't realised there was such a dearth of gladiator miniatures, though given a person would only need a few, I can understand it.

I and a couple of others have gone with Foundry and/or Crusader, but are there any others in the same scale? I've seen ones in 25mm, 32mm and some other sizes, but not much in 28mm.
Should say, ideally UK, at least until the current overseas shipping issues are sorted.

My favorite are Brigade Games, but here in the US. Great Paul Hicks sculpts, and quite accurate.

@LeadAsbestos - thanks, unfortunately it's (currently) to expensive to get a few figures shipped from the US.

@Major_Gilbear - only one of them is 28mm (which I specifically asked about), and it's only 1 figure.

@Major_Gilbear - only one of them is 28mm (which I specifically asked about), and it's only 1 figure.

CP Models, Warlord, Black Tree Design are all 28mm and available in the UK.

Not to mention that "28mm" is a weird notional scale which varies in actual size quite a lot, and so some large 25s or small 30/32s might in fact still be suitable.

Finally, there are often UK distributors of non-UK manufacturers, so it's worth knowing what's there so that you know what to look for.

...I've tried to help as much as possible, and I apologise if this isn't enough for you; however, I won't be spending any more time on this now. Good luck with your project. :?

You gave 3 manufacturers, and only 1 of them (unfortunately only 1 model) is in 28mm. I know scales differ, but I deliberately only asked for 28mm because we have found that 25mm, and especially 32mm, look wrong for us, even if others say they're close.

I thought I'd edited my post to thank for for the summary link, but looks like it didn't go through (I re-posted that link to our club forum).

Seems like you should post some pictures of what you regard 28mm because most of what I see sold as 28mm is more 32mm and a lot is 34mm then you have companies like Reaper who can have sizes closer to 40mm.

Footsore might be a possibility in their Gangs of Rome range. These are nominally street gangs but they have a light gladiator look about them and do have one actual gladiator figure. They're in the process of rejigging their game so most of the fighters aren't available from their site.

Thanks for the link.

While as you say, not much gladiator,  there are some nice figures there that could be used as slaves or noxii, and some nice patron figures.
