If these rules workout I could use my old Leviathan ‘ships’ with them! I really liked the models in those games I picked up two full games for $40 in total, great value for the vessels themselves...

Will there be a range (or even a suggested range) connected to this? The aeronef aesthetic I've always found very uninspired so I'm hoping there are more steampunky/Laputa: Castle in the Sky style stuff out there that I've missed.

The game is designed to be scale and model agnostic so you can use any models you can find.

The models in the book are all made and photographed from/by Brigade's Aeronef range.  However, you can also use Leviathan from Catalyst Game Labs, Spartan Dystopian Wars, GHQ's range of real warships on flying stands, etc.

I have seen someone use 3D printed ships from the Last Exile anime as well. 3D printing maybe the way to go for more Luputa style designs.

When I came up with the title, it was intended to be a riff on Robert K. Massie's book Castles of Steel not a riff on Studio Ghibli's movie.  D'oh!

You're sunk there I think. I assumed it was a conscious reference!

(I know if I made an airships rule it'd be what I'd have used - until now anyway).

Thanks for those, I'll give the other companies a look.

Could someone put up a link to the podcast itself?

I'm missing some key step as I keep getting just pages from the MBS forum.

Edit,2022/01/12 The link in the MBS post merely refers back to itself, not to the podcast, but I was able to find a working feed in something called 'libsyn'', so request withdrawn.

Having Leviathans, Imperial Skies, and several titles from the Aeronef line, I would love a compare and contrast, even if by allusion.

While mentioning ships, I'd like to mention some, is the phrase cheep-and-cheerful(?), other ideas. Irregular's Heirs of Manacus and Uranus and Panzerschiffe's Predreadnoughts on flight stands for the budget minded.

Okay, too cheap for my own good still cuts up plastic spoon handles.  ;)

Folks with a more lenient budget might also find Brigade models' gigantic range of aeronefs handy, many of which are pretty inexpensive anyway.

The Irregular site is a bear to navigate blind and even harder to link to properly, their VSF stuff is hidden under the 6mm scale listings, and then further buried way, way down at the bottom of the page that opens when you click on "scifi & space ships" after scrolling down past the slew of 6mm historicals.  I'm reminded of an old game store in Buffalo that had no exterior signage and could only be entered by climbing down some stairs in the back room of a lumber sales warehouse.  Probably quite a few Prohibition Era speakeasies that were easier to find.

Quite right! However, I may have it a BIT sorted: https://irregularminiatures.co.uk/6mmRanges/6mmSciFi.htm#FLYING

Actually, new to my notice, but maybe just easy to miss, AFTER you get to the 6mm page, near the top is a group image and a tiny set of mid-page links that get you there.

I just got word from Osprey that they are authorizing this book going to 80 pages instead of the usual 64 pages!

Great news about the expansion. This is at the top of new games to try in 2022 list. Even used the Christmas break to pull out and start organising my ex-Aeronef lead-pile in anticipation.

Those ships look very tasty!

Thanks to the added pages, we were able to add in bigger photos from Brigade, more artwork, and the Ottoman Fleet is back in the lists!  Huzzah!
