28mm War of 1812 - American ADCs? + 24lber
« on: November 17, 2021, 02:48:10 AM »
Greetings!

I am in the process of planning out the American left division of the 1814 Niagara Campaign in 28mm, primarily using Knuckleduster and Brigade Games. However, no one appears to make American ADCs/couriers/support staff to decorate command bases (save for the mounted ADC that comes with the General Brown model for Knuckleduster). For others with more experience in the hobby, what should I use in their place?

Also, would anyone know of a manufacturer of a (light) 24 pounder cannon when I eventually get to the Anglo-Canadians? Apparently there were 2 of them at Lundy's Lane.

Not sure if it's the right sort of 24 pounder; but T. A. Miniatures do Napoleonic British 18 & 24 lders

RE: 24 lbrs - as Mr. dragon pointed out - TA Miniatures does one. I know North Star Military Figures sells them.  Here's the link:  https://www.northstarfigures.com/prod.php?prod=14665

Re:  American AdCs.  I don't know of any specifically American aside from the KD one.  If you want them in shakoes, you can use British Mounted Colonels (Like Perry Minis does in their Napoleonic range).  A few companies make mounted officers (British and American) with fore-and-aft hats.

AdC's were typically drawn from the line units - Half of Brown's regulars were clad in blue, and many of the officers in Scott's Brigade wore blue.  Which means that the cut and style of officers' uniforms for both British and US, while not identical, were similar enough (for me, anyway).

Hope that helps...

Another idea is to mount a mounted light dragoon on your command stands, particularly those of Gen's Brown, Riall, and Drummond.  It wasn't unheard of for senior commanders to have light dragoons about for security purposes.  And both sides in this campaign had regular light dragoons at their disposal...

After taking a look, it appears to be a great fit. I'll have to keep it in mind. I imagine something of this caliber was originally brought to besiege Fort Erie maybe?

I read something like this, that (American) light dragoons were more used for messengers than combat in the Niagara campaign. In my limited research, I also read that by 1814 only general staff still wore bicornes, so for the mounted colonels (not sure if all of them should be mounted with 36 man regiments) they will have shakos.

I also stumbled upon this conversion of Perry Dutch-Belgians that looks perfect.
