Evil Dave's 15mm SciFi - New Israeli
« on: November 18, 2021, 02:27:16 PM »
I've been distracted by these 15mm New Israeli from Ground Zero Games. I sanded down their integral bases and put them on washers. Cue the Halo main theme...

Great minds think alike - although I guess using a Halo scheme with those sculpts is kind of obvious, eh?  :)

Ya, it kind of makes you wonder if someone at Bungee played StarGrunt back in the day?

If you're suggesting Bungee lifted the design from GZG you're putting the cart before the horse.  Halo came out in 2001.  Most of the NI hardsuit figs started coming out around 2009, although the ancient Z01 code is older - but not pre-Halo older.

Mind you, that doesn't mean no one at Bungee has good taste in minis rules.

Halo, as a game, with the Spartan armor, dates back to a couple years before that.  Tribes 1 was out, and extremely popular.  Bungee was developing a slightly asymetrical version with Covenant vs UNSC.  It was intended to be an online shooter before being bought out by Microsoft and turned into a single player game Xbox title.

That said, nice Spartan vibe.

Nice colour scheme.
The new Gzg NI are great minis. Especially the new weapon design's detail.
Did you get the light infantry also?

Halo was originally going to be a Mac game, I first saw stuff about it in 96/97.

Thanks guys.

@zrunelord, I did not. This is all the old stuff I got 10+ years ago, the first pack and the kneeling/prone troopers. I'll likely get some more that match the style, but not the newer re-sculpts.

Being able to paint eight of these up a week is making them a little addictive. The next batch of 15mm New Israeli is done, I've got another 16 to go before I order more.

Good for you,
But be warned that the old versions are slightly smaller ( true 15mm ) whilst the newer ones are more 18mm and beefier.
I personally prefer the 18mm ones as their detail is superb.
True 15mm are becoming too small for me ...... I often wonder how I used to paint epic scale marines.  ;)

We were all much younger when Epic was still in print.  It's been a long, long time now, although the game's many iterations still have a solid fan base.  Plus, there's always Dirtside, which is at least as undying.
