NMM has made my metallics redundant.
« on: December 02, 2021, 08:33:16 PM »
Well, sort of.

I in the last few months have begun using nmm to paint silver metal. Its a technique which takes time and practice and I definitely wont be showcasing my results on here just yet. I have however noticed that a unit together as a whole can look remarkably good using nmm even if each individual mini may not hold up to a thumb and index level of scrutiny.

So. I suppose my question is does nmm overall make for better painting and are metallic paints limiting?

I'd say it is a matter of taste. In my eyes it does not look better, but different.

And since it definitely requieres more time and skill to achieve, my preference lies with metals.

Finally, I do not think NMM can achieve all effects one can achieve with metals. Chrome for example.

You definitely can get chrome effects with NMM.  It obviously takes a lot of skill but it is possible.

I agree with you about the time though.  Until I have an endless supply of time and limited supply of figures I won't bother. Given that I am currently in the opposite situation it is not high on my list of techniques to bother learning.
