Painting American Indians - flesh tones?
« on: December 13, 2021, 06:35:04 PM »
I'm after a Vallejo base colour for 15mm Cheyenne Indians. What shade of brown would the Brethren recommend for my new 2022 project please?

Scale Color's Arabic Shadow would probably suit; their Indian Shadow may be to red.

Edit: just a short scroll down the page: link.

Don't use Vallejo so can't help there but I find using a ruddy flesh base with a red-brown wash always gives a good native American skin tone - that's my go to and I'm not picky about brands.  And, of course, I do this in 15 mm.  Hope that is of some use.

I use Vallejo Model colour in the following order:

1. Black undercoat
2. Chocolate Brown 70872
3. Cork Brown 70843

I then add a Armypainter wash on top.

A few images based on this formula:

Foundry’s Native American sets good, you could even use the South American one too
