The Boys and grandad's Uruk Hai
« on: December 04, 2021, 10:25:06 PM »
Over the past few weekends the gandsons have been learning how to convert, paint and base figures for our house wargame rules.  The first "armies" come from a large number of surplus Games Workshop Lord of the Rings figures that we were given.

The first lot were the crossbow armed Uruk Hai converted from pike armed figures

Some archers from swords men and the first metal conversion.  This was a bit worrying but the oldest boy (14) managed the sawing and pinning just fine.

Next a pike unit.  The shielded pikemen are sword armed figures rearmed with the pikes liberated from the crossbow figures.  The officers and drummer are conversions but the banner is a metal figure.

A spear unit and leaders - lots of conversions, weapon swops mainly whip, mace, horn and spears - plastic and metal.

A sword unit - not many conversions other than a drummer and couple of axes but nice just the same

Fabulous stuff. I recall those LOTR plastics were great conversion fodder.

These are great - really good to see those figures with imaginative colour schemes and heraldry!

The (dark elf?) crossbows work really well on them. I particularly like the gold-armoured officers too - a great touch!

Great work on those everybody. To parrot some of the other comments - I especially like the different heraldry - it sets them apart from the standard paint jobs everyone else seems to give the uruk-hai, and the differentiation of leaders with the gold-coloured armour works very well.

Thanks, I'll pass on your praise.  I am sure it will encourage them with their next effort (Elves).
The crossbows came from a bag of bits that my brother gave me.  So thanks for identifying them.
The boys chose the colours and the images for heraldry which came from my box of old transfers.
