A recent ancients tournament!
« on: February 15, 2022, 09:03:47 AM »
So we’ve resurrected Warhammer Ancient Battles from its long slumber!
A decent sized group of UK players got together last weekend for a tournament based around the Classical Period.
We used WAB version 2 with the army lists from Armies of Antiquity V2
Surprisingly good lists in that book! And a vast selection to choose from.
We had a great time. A bit cold though!

Forgot to mention,
We’re running another event in May, centred around the rise and fall of Imperial Rome.
If your interested in joining, just let me know.

It was!
Plus we had a beer and curry night on the Saturday!
It’s all about the people and the social side.
WAB appeals to players nostalgia  lol

In other words, we’re all old grumpy buggers!

Looks like a great set of retro matches. Wish I could teleport. Last time I played Justin, his Greeks played my Macedonians to a standstill.
Too bad WAB never became a "Bazillion" dollar twitch con event that players could play for millions and be watched world wide.
Oh I forgot. wrong game.
Looking forward to seeing how your next match goes. Despite my vulgar rambling on various boards, I do think that WAB2 is better for these events because the rules are tighter and more well intended for tournament style gaming. Your reduction of armies to distinct periods is my favorite way to go. I bet a clever player could argue that Pontic is still in play as part of the rise of Imperial Rome :)

We played locally to me, as I organised it!
I’m based in Manchester.

Yes agreed Jeff, hence my choice of AoA2, it adds a few obscure armies, and keeps things tighter and a lot easier as an organiser. Nothing wrong with those beautiful supplements though!

I only ever try and play within tighter time frames. Keeps it a bit more real.
We do get crossover armies though. Plus I understand not everyone has an army for all occasions, so I am quite relaxed about certain things.

I’m running a Biblical or Chariot Wars event at the end of the year.
Same format. I’ll use the unpublished 21 lists that were originally cut from AoA2 but I’m considering allowing very early Persian (Cyrus) Lydian and very early Greek States.
Just to get more players in.

Naturally Phalanx’s and Light chariots are not necessarily a good mix though!
