Hanseatic League 1813
« on: 16 December 2021, 04:41:51 AM »
What would be the artillery pieces of the Hanseatic League that fought with Wallmoden's force in 1813
My first thought would be Russian as they were part of a Russian force and may have received Russian pieces
But I suppose they may have been Prussian as well - or even French
Anybody have any info?
Keith

Here is what I found over on TMP

The British equiped and armed the Hanseatic Legion. Each of the Hamburg battery had 4x 6-pdrs and 2 howitzers. It is very likely that these were British guns and howitzers. Now it is unclear whether they were block trail or brack trail as they could be second hand guns or be of the Hanoverian designs as the foot artillery were still using bracket carriages. The gun tubes are Blomefield. Note that they were not issued with spherical case [Shrapnell]

The Royal Artillery used a mid-grey [Lamp black and white lead] as a paint. It is unlikely that they would have been repainted.

You would not mix French and British equipment as the calibre of the guns are different. French 6-pdr shot would not fit down a British 6-pdr and too much windage the other way.

So I was wrong on all accounts - British guns!
