I’ve been eagerly awaiting the release of Wiley Games Fistful of Lead Fantasy trilogy and finally got a chance to give them an outing today.
The scenario: Master Wizard William of Connolly has heard rumours that an unknown Necromancer is trying to open an ancient portal at a long abandoned temple. Assembling a small band of Dwarf mercenaries from a nearby village he heads to the ruins to stop the forces of evil.
The table set up. 4ft x 4ft. Terrain pieces made by OshiroModel Terrain, trees by Debris of War, boards made by me.
The Forces of Good: From left to right: William of Connolly, Robert “Bob” Mortemur, Warwick Le Davis, Peter of Dincklage and Ronald de Corbett. Figures from my collection, Footsore, GW and Hasslefree
The Forces of Darkness: All GW from Jim Bibbly’s collection.
The game:
Both groups move forward, the Dwarves being hampered with slow movement (a negative trait offset by having four wounds instead of the usual three) and wearing heavy armour. The lighter armed Skellies manage to get into position quickly and start loosing off arrows very early in the game.
The slower moving Dwarves lose their first casualty, a real blow as Bob Mortemur goes down under a hail of arrows, before he even gets a chance to let off a shot.
However the Necromancers force seeing how quickly they take out a Dwarf start to move forward into the open. William of Connolly sees a chance and unleashes a fireball upon them. Unfortunately it only wounds the Spectre.
The Necromancers forces continue their advance, giving the Dwarf fighters an opportunity to close and engage them in hand to hand combat. The odds should be stacked in favour of the stocky, heavily armed and armoured Dwarf fighters.
Unfortunately things don’t go well for Warwick of Davis, he manages to take out one Skeleton before he is brought down by a spear thrust.
Peter of Dincklage steps in to avenge his brother knight and cuts down a skeleton but they seem to keep coming.
On the other side of the table Ronald de Corbett charges the already wounded Spectre and sends it back to Hell with a flurry of blows from his war hammer
Peter of Dincklage is starting to find his groove cleaving bone left and right.
Meanwhile the Necromancer steps forward and unleashes a spell throwing vicious bone shards at the Master Wizard. William responds bathing himself in blinding light he purges the evil Necromancer and blasts him to Hell.
Game over!
The victorious Dwarves.
We throughly enjoyed the game, the new magic rules are really well thought out and fit seemlessly into the FFoL mechanics. Can’t wait for an other game in a couple of weeks.
