Waterloo, Gettysburg - 3D prints
« on: December 26, 2021, 09:45:27 AM »
Today I show you 3D prints of Waterloo and Gettysburg buildings. They are printed for a Commands & Colors game.
Also I speak about collectors, wargamers and the "evil" 3D printers.
English version at the end of the german text.

Thank-you for posting this. I agree with the core message.
3D printing is no longer inferior to cast models.

I have a resin printer which I am very impressed with.
I think that I would rather have resin printed vehicles than resin and metal kits.
I also have a set of figures for Aliens versus Humans which are excellent.

However, I continue to buy Empress Miniatures Vietnam figures, because I like the Paul Hick's sculpting and that each figure is based on period photos.
I think 3D printing will change the hobby, but quality sculpts will still have a place.

Yes, nice work.

3D printers are making a difference in the hobby.

Unfortunately, one of those differences is manufacturers are going to abandon resin scenery (already started) as a result and for those without 3D printers there will be less choice rather than more.  Products must have a reasonable chance of turning a profit or why bother?

While 3D printers can create very nice work, owning a 3D printer for most is not a very good cost/benefit ratio choice.

I guess the hope has to be others stepping in to provide for sale pre-printed 3D prints (some out there).  But those will need assembly in any of the larger scales I'd guess, 15 mm and up (maybe 10 mm and up).  I will miss finding new 'solid' resin pieces for my 15 mm gaming (hollow but one piece included in 'solid').

Maybe every center of miniatures gaming needs a couple of folk dedicated to owning and mastering 3D printing and the rest of us in the area support that person?  I think I prefer the pre-printed for sale model as more reliable though (maybe).

Definitely changes in the wind.  Sometimes change is good, sometimes not so much, but it can be relied upon to happen.

I think the printing services will Close the gap for those people, who will not buy a printer. We will see it in the future.
