Monster Hunting

Here's a short solo game I played recently using the Gunplay simple skirmish rules and a basic solo events chart.  Sorry about some of the light levels.

There are nine spots where an event may occur when first visited, marked by the nine single tall plants laid out in a three by three grid.  A card is drawn when activated and it reveals the event.

The game was only six turns.

It's early summer and a monstrous worm has been attacking some of the smaller outlying farms, killing livestock and destroying barns.  It has been tracked to this small section of desert and a small posse has formed to hunt it down.

The posse consists of two rangers, Durango with a double barreled shotgun and Helen with a six shooter; two bounty hunters, Stone with a suppressed assault rifle and Franks with a hunting rifle; and one concerned local citizen, Henry with his own assault rifle.

The two rangers move forward on the left, the two bounty hunters move up on the right and Henry hesitates before moving in the center.  The rangers flush out a couple of small jackalopes which scurry quickly away.  Stone and Franks approach a suspicious giant tumbleweed.

They were right to be suspicious as they are attacked by a rattlesnake.  Franks is almost hit but leaps back to safety.  Stone opens fire full auto and easily kills the snake, however he is now low on ammo.

The two rangers move to cover Henry who checks the plant and finds a hidden ammo stash (which counts as a free reload).  This will come in handy for Henry later.

The two rangers continue up the left side.

And they get jumped by a couple of giant scorpions.  Durango is hit but manages to stay on his feet.  Helen opens up and empties her six shooter into the nearest scorpion, killing it.  Durango lets the other have both barrels killing it as well.

The two bounty hunters also move up and, surprise, they encounter another rattlesnake.

This time Franks is not quick enough and he goes down to the snakes poison.  Stone retreats firing single shots and eventually kills the snake.

The rangers move to the center.  Durango hangs back while Helen investigates.  It looks like a good place to find the worm, but the odds actually are less than 50/50.

Odds or not, the worm attacks.  Both rangers back up firing but only manage to wound it.

Suddenly, there is a sustained burst of firing and the worm falls to the ground.

Henry found good use for all that extra ammo he was carrying.
